Shift - Operation:Agape
Agape is Greek for “unconditional or sacrificial love.” More importantly, it’s the kind of love God has for all of us. In Matthew 22, Jesus tells us the greatest commandment is to love the Lord God with all our hearts/strength/mind/spirit and to also love our neighbor as ourselves! So what does it look like to love our neighbors? Who is our neighbor? How can we show love to our neighbors in not just a superficial way, but in an Agape way? This Spring will be dedicated to learning, understanding, and serving God and our neighbors, all culminating in Operation:Agape. May17th-18th will be a weekend all about showing Christlike love to God’s people near, far, and farthest! The best part? Shifters are in control of the narrative! We decide together how to show Agape to our neighbors!
Act II
The Gospel According to John … taught by Bruce Gore in the Sanctuary.
TED Talk & Intergenerational Conversation … led by Brad & the Initiative 3 Team in the Fireside Room
We’ll watch the 11-minute TED Talk then have some conversation.
About the TED Talk: The Silent Generation, baby boomers, Generation X, millennials, Gen Z -- we're all in this together. How are our assumptions about each other holding us back from working and communicating better? Social psychologist Leah Georges shows how we're more similar than different and offers helpful tactics for navigating the multigenerational environment.
The Gift of Empathy … led by Betsy and our Stephen Ministers in Room 210
Empathy is a necessary skill for Christians who wish to love others! We can all get better at expressing empathy to our neighbors, families, in the workplace, or with strangers. Join us to learn about empathy and practice together over these 2 sessions.
Destination: Unknown (3rd-5th Grade)
Join us for a day of mystery. That’s right. You’ll sign up and have no idea what surprises are in store for you during an afternoon of adventure! Of course parents can know, but it’ll be a complete unknown for kids! Just know it will be something you won’t want to miss out on!
Once registered, you’ll be sent some details on what to bring for the day. Also, parents can reach out to Ryan at ryans@spokanefpc.org for the details of the day (you just have to promise to keep it a secret!)
Shift - Art in the Park

Intergenerational Gathering with Blue Door Improv Theater
Dinner @ 5:30 followed by entertainment provided by our new neighbors at the Blue Door Improv Theater! What even is improv? Well, Blue Door describes it as, "a style of live unscripted performance where everything is created on the spot. Usually, the result is something hilarious, and unendingly entertaining." There will be (voluntary!) crowd participation and (involuntary) belly laughs. We can't wait for our church family to get to know the Blue Door family during this unforgettable night.
Gaza Ceasefire Pilgrimage - Spokane
This Lent a global movement (over 170 walks around the world) is journeying in prayerful solidarity with the Palestinian people of Gaza. We journey with grief over the tragic events of October 7th that deepened the trauma of our Jewish kin. We journey in lament over the asymmetrical violence in response that is resulting in a human catastrophe in Gaza. We journey on Holy Saturday - a moment within the Christian tradition where we wait with grief, lament, and hesitant hope. We journey in the effort to dismantle the strongholds of Anti-Semitism and Islamophobia that are on the rise in our communities. We journey along the Centennial Trail, starting at the State Line and ending at FPC. Journey for all 25 miles or simply a portion! All info can be found HERE.
Conversation (Option 2) - Video
We are having conversation about how we as a church relate to our LGBTQ siblings in Christ. If you aren’t able to participate in the conversations on the 2 books we read together, you are invited to join us for this conversation. We ask you to watch a video we recommend on the topic before this Sunday. We hope this video will help us come into the conversation with some understanding of different perspectives so we are able to listen well to one another. Go to the following link and scroll down for the video link.
