What Are You Thinking?
Here’s the thing, we don’t just snap and do things. Even the most “spontaneous” decisions, or the choices that happen because you just get caught up in the heat of the moment all start with the thoughts and longings you allow to take up space in your brain. From casual thoughts, we progress to words, to action. This works both for bad and for good. Psalm 119:11 says, “I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.” When you take time out of your day to read the Bible, to pray and talk to God, to listen to some worship songs, or to memorize God’s word, you train your thoughts towards things like love, patience, joy, kindness, humility--all those things we say we want in our lives. It’s not some magic self-improvement trick either. God says his word is “living and active.” When we invest our energy into grappling with it, God shows up works within us to undo the old ugly patterns we feel stuck in and to reform our thoughts and longings towards the good things he has waiting for us.
What kind of thoughts, words, and actions do you want to allow to take root in yourself today? What are you filling your mind with in order to produce that result?
