Prince of Peace - by Makayla

Isaiah 9:6-7

For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
    Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
    Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the greatness of his government and peace
    there will be no end.
He will reign on David’s throne
    and over his kingdom,
establishing and upholding it
    with justice and righteousness
from that time on and forever.

How does it feel to read that the greatness of Christ’s peace will never end? Do you believe it, even in a world that seems to lack peace?

My prayer for all of us over winter break as the season of Advent draws to a close is that we learn to rest and rest well in the deep, abiding peace of Christ. As Jesus says recorded in the gospel of John, “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.” Let these words be an anchor for you. Let the peace only Jesus can give reign in your mind and heart. All anxiety. All difficult family drama. All loneliness. All worry. All unrest. All stress about the future. All of it. None of this can shake the foundation of peace Jesus wants to offer to us. We have the opportunity to feel a sense of rootedness, equanimity, and the overwhelmingly calm wash of peace over us if we only look to Christ as our Prince of Peace.
