Deacon Ministry

Be shepherds of God's flock that is under your care, watching over them--not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be. 1 Peter 5:2

The Deacons of First Presbyterian Church take the lead in caring for individuals and families in our church going through all sorts of challenging life events, such as illness or bereavement, a new baby or finding oneself homebound, and more. We pray regularly for the needs of the church, make visits, deliver flowers, coordinate memorial service receptions, and send cards of empathy and encouragement. Our meals team uses to coordinate schedules for a week or two of meals.

The office of deacon is first described in the Bible in Acts 6:1-6. First Pres nominates, votes for, and ordains a class of 6 Deacons every year; they serve a 3-year term of service. [You can see the current Deacons and their moderator here—link to officers page?]

If you know of a need in our church or community that you would like the Deacons to pray for or attend to, please leave a message on the Deacon phone line, fill out one of the prayer request cards found in the pews or at the reception desk, or contact the Associate Pastor for Congregational Care. We will get in touch with you if you so desire.
