To equip young people to grow toward mature Christian adulthood
Family Ministries is comprised of our ministries for children and youth; Children’s Ministries (childcare to sixth grade), Student Ministries (middle and senior high school) and the First Presbyterian Christian School (3’s to fourth grade). Our programs seek to engage and challenge children and youth from within this church family and in the surrounding community. Our Family Ministries and Adult Ministries staffs also collaborate to support parents with classes and fellowship opportunities.
Spiritual formation of children and youth is at the heart of what we seek. And we know that developing faith, a faith that sticks throughout life, is the deep desire of parents for their children. Our core purpose is simple then:
To equip young people to grow toward mature Christian adulthood.
As we have wrestled with this purpose, we have articulated the values we hold for our ministry to children and youth. These ministry values shape the “what and how” of everything we do.
Jesus-Shaped Identity – We believe Jesus Christ must be at the center of our lives and making disciples of Jesus at the core of our ministry. (1 Corinthians 8:6)
Biblically Centered – We share God’s revealed Biblical story and its application to shape our lives. (2 Timothy 3:15-17)
Relational – Relationships are the key means by which ministry is embodied, supported, and carried out. (1 Thessalonians 2:8)
Missional – God’s mission is calling and sending us, the church of Jesus Christ, to be a missionary people in our own culture; “as the Father has sent me, I am sending you”. (Matthew 28: 18-20)
Incarnational – Being sent to the people we are called to love, taking all dimensions of Christ's life and ministry on earth as an example of how we should do our ministry. (John 1:14)
Family Partnership – We engage with families in the faith development of their children. (Deuteronomy 6:4-9)
Intergenerational - Connecting young people with an extended family of Christian adults. (Ephesians 2:19-22)
