Mission

God calls us to serve others.  The more we are aware of Him, the more we see the needs of those around us – the hungry, the lonely, the sick, and the sad.   When we reach out to others, we are doing God’s work, and the congregation of First Presbyterian Church reaches out in many ways to help those less fortunate.  They do this with their individual acts of kindness – mowing an elderly neighbor’s yard, sponsoring a young child to summer camp, or praying softly with someone who has lost their way.  Our congregation also serves others through its financial support for nearly forty ministries world-wide.

These ministries focus on such diverse needs as caring for the orphans of parents with AIDS in Thailand, carrying the word of God to college campuses in the Pacific Northwest; bringing sack lunches and fellowship to shut-ins in downtown Spokane hotels; supporting emerging Presbyterian churches in Brazil, Japan, and Spokane; and assisting our own youth with their ministries to build homes and lives in Mexico.

There are more requests for funding from our church than can be met.  Decisions about which ministries are funded are guided by our church’s Covenant for Service, which is included within the website.

Applications for grants for funding for 2008 are now being accepted. The deadline for submission is December 30, 2007.

We encourage members and visitors to scroll down the list of ministries presently supported by First Presbyterian Church of Spokane.  A description of each ministry and a method for contacting that ministry are provided for you.  It is the hope of the Service Team that each of you will find among this list one ministry that calls you by name, takes you by the hand, and leads you to serve God in a new way.
