The Lord protects the foreigners among us.
He cares for the orphans and widows, but
he frustrates the plans of the wicked. - Psalm 146:9 NLT
Anuak Meer (Love) Ministry is an endeavor of First Presbyterian Church. In solidarity with Anuak members of our congregation and Christian brothers and sisters in Gambella, Ethiopia, we join hands and hearts to care for those who are widowed and orphaned in Gambella following the massacre in 2003 of over 400 Anuak men and boys.
Our desire is to invite others to join us in providing food, shelter, education, health care and Christian nurture to children orphaned by the massacre and AIDS. We work with Partners in Africa to provide this support. Currently, 30 children receive sponsors through members and friends of First Presbyterian, and we invite others to join us. If you are interested in child sponsorship and would like to contact us, please click here. More information about Partners in Africa can be found here.
Anuak Meer Ministry also seeks to provide a means of earning a living wage for those who are widowed. We are working with church leaders in Gambella who, along with women in the wider community, determine the direction of projects. Financial assistance is critical to establishing on-going projects that can provide a living wage, and these gifts are greatly appreciated.
