Keith Beebe & Dale Soden, Whitworth Professors
Fireside Room

We live in a time of shifting denominational identities and an uncertain church landscape. Some long for a return to the past while others envision a completely post-denominational future.  In the midst of these shifting realities, its important to pause and ask: Who are we?  What makes us “Presbyterian,” anyway?  Where did we come from and how did we get here?  What does it mean to be part of a vital theological tradition, while at the same time boldly following Christ into a new future?  If these are questions you have asked, or if you’d like some help navigating the denominational world we’re living in, come join our gifted team of Whitworth friends as they lead us in this timely and important discussion.

The Bible in Context

Many of us cherish the Bible but aren't quite sure how it all fits together, or how it lines up with world history. Join Bruce Gore as he surveys the full seep of God's redeeming work in history, helping us put the Bible in context.

The Parent Connection

All-Together: A Congregational Meeting Like No Other

Does the usual agenda of finances and electing new officers sound a bit dry?  It’s important work we need to do together but how we go about it this year just might surprise you.

What is The Common Hour

The “Common Hour” is a time between worship services when we focus together on fellowship, discipleship, and apostleship.  While traditional adult education opportunities continue to take place during this time, we have expanded our vision for what formation and learning can look like:

· A time to connect with those who worship at a different service.

· A time to participate in a class or a group to learn together.

· A time for genuine fellowship and the sharing of our stories.

· A time for celebrating God’s work in our midst.

· A time to deepen our discipleship as a church body, leading to a common language and a common understanding of our faith and our mission.

· A time to consider what it means to be formed into the gospel-shaped community God has called us to be.

· A time to dream together about some new ways that “going to church” on Sundays might help us to be the church when we are apart.

One exciting aspect of the common hour is the opportunity to gather the whole congregation together about once a month, for an “All-together” Sunday experience.  These experiences may include potluck meals, times of sharing and prayer, special announcements, focused forums on important topics, and new opportunities for missional equipping.  Important yearly events like the annual meeting and stewardship campaign will take place in this venue.

We also hope that the common hour will be a meeting space and “launching pad” for small groups, mid-sized groups, and new folks: space to connect, space to learn, space to become together what God is calling us to become.
